A three day impact evaluation of the pre-primary educational model TDH-NL India programme was headed by Mrs. Indira Swaminathan on July 4th to 6th 2012 to assess the impacts generated for the last 10 years through the ELC established in 12 villages by ROPES in 2002. The impact finding team carefully perused all the records at our disposal and collected the opinion of the parents and the public regarding the quality of educational service and child care work in the ELC at the village level. They also met the staff of ROPES and teachers for ascertaining the quality of service and the holistic development of children who have attended the ELCs. The evaluators met the benefited children studying in various classes in school and colleges and recorded their feedback for assessing the impacts created because of the early stay and study at ELCs. The impact evaluation report has revealed the quality of our educational service through play way education and provision of nutritious meal for the wholesome development of children in the target area for a decade. The parents also expressed the positive role of ELC in not only protecting their infants but also providing play way education to the exploited children and relieving the parental anxiety about their wards while they are involved in day long work away from their homes. Success stories
Damunaik is a 15 years tribal (Yanadi) boy hailing from a remote village named chikkapalli of kuppam mandal in Chittoor district. He is from a very poor labor family. He lost his mother 2 years back in an accident when she was working in a welding shop. During work one of the welding rods pierced in to her stomach and she expired on the spot. He has two elder sisters who never studied in the school. They were married early in their age and left to in-laws house. His father is a heavy alcoholic and never bothers about his family or his only son who is alone at home without any support. His father spends all his earnings for his alcohol and the child has to suffer a lot without food other needs. But Damu is very much interested in education. By seeing this local teachers admitted him in Bangarupalyam high school and sheltered him in nearby ST hostel. But his educational standard was very low. He was struggling a lot to cope up with the difficult subjects like English, science and mathematics. ROPES special coaching classes helped him a lot to improve his standards and prepare him for his X class public Exam (Government exam). ROPES qualified special coaching teachers provided the student good coaching. They talked with each and every student and identified the problems they are facing in their academics and coached them need basely. ROPES provided him educational material like note books and stationeries and provided evening snacks. Damu also worked hard to get through his X class government exam. Damu got 8/10 grade in English, 10/10 grade in maths and 9/10 grade in science. He is blessed and lucky enough to get a seat in ITI in Kuppam in Chittoor district and his aim is to complete Mechanical engineering but his poverty does not allow him to study engineering. But after completing his ITI course he wants to join in engineering course. For that he is doing part time work during holidays and evenings to earn money for his further studies. His ambition is however he wants to become a mechanical engineer. |
