Rural Organization for Poverty Eradication Services (ROPES) registered in 1989 as a secular , non-government and not for profit organization enjoys the rapport of really have nots belonging to grass root communities of Tribals, dalits, gypsies and backward people in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Karnataka states of India and strives to serve and transform the life's of people from the clutches of poverty and stop child exploitation.
The target area comes under Chittoor District in Rayalaseema where intensive project activities related to stop children exploitation and child rights protection focus area includes 31 Mandals in Madanapalle division, Chittoor District. Chittoor is around 160 KM from Chennai while it is 595 KM away from Hyderabad the State Capital and around 1800 KM from the national capital, New Delhi. Chittoor is in the extreme south of Andhra Pradesh.
We are presently working in 300 most backward villages of 66 Mandals in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Chittoor district is one of the very much socially and economically backward district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Agriculture is the main occupation for families in the district. 80% of the people depend on agriculture of which only 10% of people have their own land and remaining people work as wage laborers in their field earning very low income leading to distress and state of poverty. Children are forced to work in fields due to poor economic status of the families and hence education is another issue. The district stands at the bottom with other districts in the state with regard to health status. Health issues are very common and prevalence of HIV-AIDS is more common in this district.
